Broadside Poetry Poster
Design Brief:
For this project, I was tasked with designing a poster for the Poetry International contest winner, “Grieve, Goddess Sings, for the Black Sons of America” by Sakinah Hofler. The objective was to create a visual interpretation that complements the poem’s themes, integrating both typography and imagery to form a cohesive and impactful design.
Initial Sketches:
When creating the design I wanted the image to represent the position of the mother. For context, the poem is about an expectant mother facing the worries and challenges of raising a Black son in the United States. I wanted the hands to be reaching up in mourning due to the racism and discrimination her son is going to face while growing up in America.
