Over/Under
This project focused on designing typography layouts for a new exhibit at the Mingei Museum in Balboa Park. The designs were inspired by weaving, the exhibit's main theme, and followed the museum's design guidelines to reflect its aesthetics. My goal was to create layouts with a sense of movement and incorporate the exhibit's primary colors.
This was my first typography-based design project, so I experimented with various layouts through trial and error. I began with simple black-and-white designs without images to focus solely on the layout. This approach helped me decide where each font should go and how to guide the viewer's eye through the design. Once the layout was finalized, I added color and imagery. The textures and images used in these layouts are all elements of the exhibit.
